Purple Tumblers
by Lori Reed
The couple who requested this art piece had recently erected a number of purple martin houses along the Illinois River in memory of his father. I added a purple martin on a post in the foreground of the photo they provided and placed text from a Carl Sandburg poem about purple martins in the sky and grass. Then I made multiple digitally altered prints of the image, cut those into strips and pieced them together with art papers.
